Why Design?

Beginning a kitchen and bathroom remodel can be a daunting task.  This is especially true if not given the proper tools for the job.  That is what led to our company offering the design aspect of renovations separate from the building side.  Don’t get me wrong, we ultimately want to take on the projects we design!  When planning, lots of care and attention is given down to the smallest detail.  And of course, in Richard’s mind its “going to be the best project yet”.  However, we also know that there’s a lot to be said for having a solid base plan and the freedom that comes for our clients having this design up front.  Here are a few reasons to invest initially in the planning and design phase.

Design Led Budget

According to financial guru Dave Ramsey, “A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.”  That is a game changer as far as I’m concerned.  When designing up front, you are able to establish a budget and determine which areas of the project are of most importance to you and where your money will be best spent.  This comes after careful consideration of how you spend your time, what your day to day activities are, etc.  This blog goes into more detail on discovering your style and determining how to make your space work best for you.  Bottom line is having a budget allows you to put the money where it is a best fit for you and your family.

Having a Visual

A picture is worth a thousand words and so is having a layout for your space.  Sometimes, Richard can talk till he’s blue in the face attempting to explain what he envisions.  (insert confused, blank stare emoji)  It’s not until he puts it on paper that I have that “Aha” moment.  One of the first things Richard does after his initial consultation is to draft a layout of the existing.  This allows him to move walls, add cabinets, and play around with the various ideas that are running through his mind.  Also during the design phase, we are able to draft elevation drawings of what the space will look like.  What a great thing to have for those who, like me, need a visual prop to get their creative juices flowing!

Peace of Mind

Last but not least, having an upfront design gives our clients a peace of mind.  First off, it allows our clients to get apples to apples bids.  Believe it or not, competitive bids is win-win.  We want our clients to move forward in confidence, and having more than one quote does just that.  It establishes trust in knowing that the price they are given is fair and accurate.  I’ll go into more detail in my next blog with tips to compare bids.   Next, a detailed design is perfect for those clients who are more hands on and prefer to handle the building aspect of the project themselves.  Our clients peace of mind that comes with a detailed design stage sets the tone for a less stressful, pleasant building experience for everyone.

So if you’re thinking of renovating your kitchen or bathroom, don’t skip on the design stage.  Contact us and we can get started on crafting a unique plan for your room that reflects your style and life.   It’s your home.  Make it yours.
