With the arrival of spring I find myself itching to spruce up the interior of our home. Unfortunately, it’s not always possible to purchase all new decor at the change of the seasons. That’s okay. I have found a few other things that I can do to help solve the dilemma and refresh my space!
Bring the Outdoors In.
I always enjoy incorporating something from the outdoors into my decor. I was fortunate to purchase a home where the previous owner designed a landscape that would be a gift all year long. At Christmas, pine cones, holly, and magnolia leaves make their appearance. For spring, I bring in some beautiful white azalea blooms that are in abundance and eventually some white peonies. For summer I like to use roses, fresh mint, or basil. Trust me, this is nothing fancy since I am in no way a florist. I’m also not an interior designer. I just know what I like and try to add touches of those things throughout my home.
Find a New Home For the Old.
This may sound simple enough, and it is. Sometimes the best thing you can do is gather the decor you already have placed and put it in a huge pile. Then start from scratch decorating with a blank slate. Sometimes you will start to see spaces in a new way. Other times, you may begin to notice the connections or design themes that can be made with some of the items that you hadn’t thought of before.
Think Out of the Box.
I have a box or two in which I like to keep miscellaneous items that I can use to decorate. Sometimes when yard selling (one of my favorite things to do) I find an item that I like. I don’t always know exactly what I’m going to do with it, so when I get home it goes in to the box. Other times, items that I’m switching out at the change of seasons go into the box to reintroduced at a later time. This box helps me to be able to revamp our spaces when I get the urge without having to spend a lot of money.
So go ahead! Grab the stuff you already have and get busy redecorating your home. Refresh it and make it the space you love!
